I am looking to put a rail system on my bushmaster ORC. I want the rail to extend over the gas block itself and am looking for a free floating model. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking at Midwest Industries and Yankee Hill as both have received positive feedback on this site. Does anyone know if either of these will fit over the gas block, and if so which model and in which length?

Thanks for the help!

For most rails to fit over your staked gas block you are going to have to cut off the sling swivel and the bayonet lug.

I have a buddy who has the orc and he used a POF rail.  the inner diameter of the tube is very large.  I think he only ditched the sling swivel.

As mentioned, once the sling mount and bayo lug are removed you can fit a fairly small diameter rail on it.  I have a Samson Evo rail on my RRA that uses a cut down FSB similar to what the ORC has.

There a couple of others that will work.  What style rail are you looking for?  Quad rail or round rail?

Cutting the sling mount should be pretty simply. I am looking for a quad rail, do you know if any models from Midwest Industries or Yankee Hill will work?

Thanks

Actually this here is about the perfect length for me, anyone know if it will fit? Also, any ideas on how to install?

The MI rails should work.  You can get the one that bolts down on the stock barrel nut and that will save you cost on tools.

The YHM you listed will also work, but you will need some tools to remove the factory barrel nut.  You would then install the YHM barrel nut and then install t rail onto that.

Depending on cost, there are also other makers of rails that work with the stock barrel nut.  Daniel Defense is one that comes to mind.  The MI one is about the most cost effective though.  You can cut the delta ring and break away the springs behind it.  Pound out the taper pins on the FSB and remove it to remove the hand guard cap, or just cut that off as well.

I don't see a "specter" length on the MI, but they do offer a 12" that would cover your FSB.  Shop around, but here is an example:

hmm, 12 in seems a bit long for me, however MI also offers a 10in which I think would be perfect, regardless I am going to bring it in to a gunsmith to install

I was looking at this?
