All yesterday at work I was hoping for nice weather today, so maybe I could get to the range and get some shooting in.

I wanted to break in my Bushmaster XM-15, which I've had for awhile now and never shot yet.

Sure enough, as soon as I leave work yesterday, it starts to cloud up, and then rains cats and dogs all night here.  My usual luck.  Oh well.

Rain continues throughout the morning, but finally around 2 p.m. the sun starts coming out and it turns beautiful.  Great!

I grab my range bag and a box of Remington UMC 55 grain FMJ, stuff my Bushy into a tactical case, and off I go.

Get to the range and NO ONE else is there.  I have the whole place to myself, which is awesome because usually this place is packed on Saturdays.

After action on the Bushy:

- Shoots very clean and crisp.  I love it!

- My groups were high at 100 yards.  Had to dial in some elevation corrections.  All I used were the irons.  This is a Plain Jane carbine and no optics are planned for it.

- Zero malfunctions of any kind.  Sweet.  I bought an aftermarket chrome bolt carrier group for this piece, so the BCG is not factory stock on it.  I was amazed at how easy it is to clean a chrome bolt and bolt carrier when I got home!

Now that .223 is starting to become available again, I think I'm going to be spending more happy hours with this baby this summer.

You know, yes I have seen "the chart" many times and I know it isn't parked under the FSB & what not.  But you know what?

I'll tell you what.  Bushmaster makes a damn fine rifle all the same.

Here's the required pic...

Congrats on the new rig. I dont know why people dog Bushmasters so much. Mine is one of my favorite AR's. It never malfunctioned in anyway and shoots whatever I feed it. I say Bushy's are GTG.

With the removable carry handle sooner or later you will add an optic.

Next time go hardcore and get an A2 or A1

I've got three and love everyone of them.

Grats doc!!
Enjoy the hell out of it.
My bushy has had ZERO failures to date, only about 2k rounds through her but still, solid, crips, clean.

We have two Bushmasters a carbine and a rifle.

Both of our Bushmasters are great. I did have a couple of extraction
malfunctions with the carbine but the #6 "O" ring around the
extractor spring and a new extractor fixed it 100%. It's been used quite a bit and
I was not too surprised to have to change the worn extractor.

Shoot safe,

Thanks for the range report-sounds like you had a great time

As far as people dogging Bushy-don't sweat it. They may have had some issues in the past, but who hasn't?

As far as Bushmaster quality goes, I am certain of one thing: my XM-15 runs like a clock

Enjoy your new rifle.

Congrats on the Bushy. I've owned 4 Bushies and I've never had a malfunction with any of them. I'm a big fan.
