I am currently running a Bushnell MP redot on my AR15.
So far I am kind of happy with it - but I am really having a hard time hitting targets far past 75 yards. I am using the front post for a cross reference - but I cant seem to connect very well with it - The target is hard to see using the red dot. Also, Its difficult for me to align targets properly due to the fact the dot its self is not static and is variant depending on the potion of how I look into the sight. Does any one recommend any techniques I should look into, to help me acquire my target better or maybe should I change the front post to a fiber optic or tritium front post to help me see better? I find it often the black is hard to align with targets at a range. Or should I look at other options for optics / red dot? |

When I use a red dot, I do not focus or look at any other sights, peeps, posts or whatever. Additionally, I try to keep both eyes open and focus on the target, not the dot. This is different than irons where you should focus on the front sight post.
Keep in mind that red dot sights are not intended to be precision sights. They are designed to land hits on people-sized targets, not 1" circles dozens of yards away. Try shooting prone off sandbags and concentrate on fundamentals - sight picture, breathing, NPOA, trigger control, and follow-through. It might help to close one eye for the far out stuff. |

The dot "moves around" the lens depending on where your head is but if you notice, it never moves around the target, just the lens. It doesn't align with anything else either, just the dot and only the dot. Forget you even have a front sight post there because you aren't using it with this.
I have one of them in my truck, when I go spur of the moment hog hunting my leupold comes off and the red dot goes on, zeroed at 50 yds it's never let me down out to 200. In other words, stop worrying about where the dot is in the lens and just put it and only it on what you want dead. |
