I don't have one to try - sorry about that. But I can tell you that the BAR-10 mag well requires a mag that is straight (no curve) for 2.5" at the front of the mag from the top and 3" at the back of the mag from the top. The top being the feed lips. If your 30-round mags start to curve sooner than this, they probably will not fit. FYI-Thermold mags will not fit because of a molded lip around the mag that will not go into the mag well. All 20-round FAL mags I have tried so far work well (one was difficult to remove, but was easily fixed by filing the locking lug on the bacl of the magazine). HTH |

This is an email I got from Bushmaster a few months back...I believe the info is still valid...just fyi Subject: BAR-10 Magazines Magazines for the .308 BAR-10 Rifle The .308 will readily accept the following mags: * Steel FN FAL metric and inch pattern 20 rd mags work well. * 30 rd, curved, L4A1 7.62 NATO (Bren Gun) mags work well. * Straight FAL mags, such as the South African 30 rd should readily work. * FN licensed contract FAL mags should work well - i.e., Austrian, German, Argentine, Brazilian, etc. * * * Problem, or may be problem mags: * * Australian "straight" 30 rd mags will not work (feed lips and body are at a 10° angle to each other). * Old Israeli mags have corroded and/or weak springs. * Very old, phosphated Israeli mags seem to have the most problems - usually a last round bolt over base failure. * Samples of mags from India were not tested - the quality and reliability is unknown. * Thermold mags have a mag well "flange" that must be removed, but they still can be used. FAL Aluminum Mags are not recommended (due to feed lip spread). Thank you, BushmasterTech Support. |
| Whats the big deal! 10 more rounds thats the big deal. Yes I agree that it would be hard if not impossible to shoot prone. SO WHAT. I use my 30 round FAL mags in my DSA Congo 18" bbl FAL all the time with ZERO malfunctions. It is heavy but I figure I am not carrying this thing through the bush I use it on a range and weight is not a problem. |

I would go with the Bushmaster. The fact that you don't have to modify an expensive magazine should be a big plus. The ambi mag release and bolt release are also a good thing hanks, Ron |
