I want to upgrade my stock bcg, and I saw that CMMG has their ar15 BCGs in stock. Are these GTG or should I wait for a BCM BCG or a DD BCG?
Thanks. I'm still a newb.
Sorry if this has been beat to death already. EDIT. I have a stock bushmaster BCG which amazingly had a decent staking on the gas key, however the bolt devloped a chip near the cam pin so i'm not comfortable with it anymore. |

BCM is going to be ranked higher... They do a little more on the inspection end. They HPT and MPI every bolt, CMMG does batch testing. The engineer we have on here will tell you HPT and MPI doesn't matter... and that a bolt that fails it will fail during the first magazine, anyway. I have three CMMG BCGs. They're nice... I like them just fine. If I got to pick CMMG or BCM at the same price, both available, I would pick BCM. But I use and like CMMG. PS: I've got a BCM, too. I will tell you as much as the next guy that the general machining finesse is not that important... But I kind of expected better. Just a little rough, I gave myself a "paper cut" on the edge of the carrier it was so sharp. It is the higher grade part, though. PSS: What do you currently have? |

CMMG does do batch testing, but all of their stuff comes with a life time warranty against manufacturing problems, and I am of the opinion that any problems that you will have will show up in the first 200 rounds and if you do have a problem cmmg has great customer service and will fix problems right away, and the dont look for ways to get out of it being their fault. I also think CMMG hold themselves to very high standards and all in all are top notch.
That said, I am biased toward CMMG in general and have no first hand experience with BCM. Do your own due diligence and pick what you want. Also remember, $30 is not a lot of money in the big picture. ETA Whats your current BCG and upgrading your BCG also gives you the luxury of having a spare BCG... So its a double whammy as some would say |

CMMG BCGs are made by CMT/Stag. I have a CMMG M16 BCG that came in my CMMG 16" midlength upper and I have a BCM BCG waiting for a 14.5" LMT or BCM M4 upper.
The CMMG is nicely put together, similar to my RRA and better than my Bushmaster. The carrier looks identical to the BCM, but the difference is in the bolt. The BCM is SOOOO much nicer. I'm sure the CMMG is a perfectly reliable BCG, but not a BCM. Once BCM has bolts available I'll replace the CMMG bolt and retain the carrier. Or I'll just replace the entire unit. If I don't go BCM, I'll either get a Young Manufacturing chrome bolt for the carrier, or I'll get a complete Young BCG. |

I would like to have a bolt that has been HP and MP tested, I know that most bolt would be OK but I don't necessarily believe about bolts failing during the first magazine or not at all, as a believe that crack propagation and fatigue might affect the bolt after a few thousand cycles.
EDIT I guess I did not know that CMMG bolts where only batch tested. |
