I recently purchased a CMMG 300Blk rifle. I am currently in the process of switching out the hand guard to a MI free float tube. I can't for the life of me figure out why I cant get the micro gas block off! I took out the 2 set screws, removed the gas tube, and soaked it in KROIL. I've been using a small block of wood to try and tap (smack) the gas block free. But no luck. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to this? Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated.

Gently heat the block with a torch.

I took the barrel off and have it setting on end. I put some KROIL on the top seam to see if it will soak down through the night. If that doesn't work I guess I try some heat tomorrow night

When you took out the 2 set screws, did it appear that there may have been some type of thread locking compound on them.  If so, then some of this thread locker may have gotten under the block, and it can often be loosened with a little heat.  Between the Kroil and heat, with a little tapping from a hammer, it should come off.

Sully,

Yes, there was thread locker on them. As a matter of fact I can still see it down in the holes of the gas block. I'm going to let it soak today and give it a try with some heat tonight. Thanks for the tip.
