I have found a CCMG gun I like and have a few questions for the smarter folks out there:

1. This gun has a Govt. Profile Barrel--can you guys give me the short version of which barrel is best for a avg joe who trains a little and uese it for home defense?
2. This gun has a 1/7 twist--I know most guns have a 1/9---pros/cons?
3. Will this gun function reliably with .223 ammo? Are they good guns?

Thanks for helping the Rook.

1.) Impossible to say what's best.  I like medium to medium heavy profile barrels for stability.  Many like Gov for balance.

2.) 1 in 9 twist rates are ideal for average M193 ball ammo, which is 55g and the most cost effective for plinking.  1 in 7 twist rates are ideal for premium heavy-for-caliber bullets like 77grain like mk 262.  Contrary to popular belief, my 1/7 stabalizes 55 grain better than my 1/9, but my 1/9 does not shoot 77 grain as well as my 1/7.  Buy 1/7 or 1/8.

3.) These are some of the better rifles out there in general terms.  They use premium barrels and MP test both barrels and bolts.  Although mine is perfect, some have reported less than stellar assembly.  I'm not so sure there are as many mistakes as there are reports.

1 The gov profile is fine for just about everything. It is light weight so huffing around the Texas wilderness will not be more of a chore than it already is. The military uses it for their AR's so you can do so without worry.
2. I really like 1/7 twist but I shoot mostly 62g or over where the 1/7 shines. If you are 55g and under then 1/9 would fit your bill a bit better.
3. Out of my AR's I only like my Noveske better than my CMMG's. I have 2 CMMG M4's one government profile and one SOCOM, I have a 20" Gov profile CMMG and a 9mm CMMG M4 profile. The guys at CMMG know what they are doing and you would be hard pressed to find a better rifle for the price. .223 will work just fine.

Have fun and rest easy.

Oh! Happy Shooting

Get ready to wait.  I ordered a boring old upper--read, no upgrades--and still waiting over 2 months.  I've read others have been waiting longer.  Apparently they're going through training issues, recovering from SHOT, whatnot.  Really hope they get all that squared away and move toward the Larue way of doing it, soon.

Wait time usually only depends on barrel configuration.  We had a couple batches of steel that had to be kicked back and that pinched us hard.  We also have had an enormous increase in sales that we have been able to just keep ahead of.  We are doing our best to keep inventory levels high and get product out the door ASAP.  We do have quite a bit of extra personnel and have added a couple extra phone lines.  Thank you for your patience.

Thanks Jeff.  It's appreciated you aren't going to let substandard barrels slip through.  Looking forward to saying, "It's worth the wait"

Just a note, went out and shot all my rifles today. The CMMG's performed perfectly! Not one problem with any of them. As usual, the CMMG's performed and in some cases out performed some of my rifles costing 2x there amount. CMMG be praised!
