I have been looking at M4 type uppers for awhile and and had decided to go with an LMT upper for my next build. Then I talked to several people  on this board about ordering one and was told they were Months out, That sucks.
Then I started hereing about CMMG uppers, Mostly good things but a few quality control issues as well.
My criteria was simple. I wanted a
16" barrel  1X7 twist rate
M4 profile
Chrome Lined
A2 hider
I would be Mounting the upper on a Bushy Lower that I had just sold the 20" upper from.
The complete project consisted of :
-CMMG MOD4 A3 upper
-Bushy Lower
-Surefire M73 Rail system
-Sure 6P with pressure switch.
-TD forward grip
-DD single Point sling mount.
-Spec. single point MOUT HST sling.
-On top ARMS #38STD.
-Aimpoint M2 in a ARMS #22M68 w/ full spacer

( before someone critics me on the height of the Aimpoint, Ill just say I like them mounted high like this because when wereing IBA Body Armor and vest, plus Goggles, Plus possible Pro-mask The height to me is just plain faster site aquistion, might not work for some but does for me)

CMMG service was excellant, There was a shipping snafu but they took care of it promptly and I was satisfied.
-When I received the Upper Last week The first thing that caught my eye was the Chromed Bolt Carrier, I didnt order that but Im told its an upgrade when they run out of the standard ones, OK...
Doesnt really matter to me as long as I didnt pay extra for it and didnt know, which I wasnt.
-Next and Most Important I could not believe How much better this upper fit my Bushy lower, there is litteraly NO-PLAY between upper and lower, BUT it is NOT tight or hard to close, Fit could not be better Plain and simple. This upper fit my Bushy lower better than the orginal Bushy upper that was a factory built gun.
-Finish was excellant, matching perfectly.

I put everything together and headed to the range today.
let me paint the Picture here in OHIO it is Sunny, 38F No cross wind.

-It took me 4 rounds to get zero with the Aimpoint at 50yrds
Here is the first solid group I fired, this was fired on bench with elbows only supported on bench.
NOTE: All rounds fired and pictured, unless otherwise marked were fired from bench with only elbows supported by the bench.

1st group at 50 yrds had dot covering the sillouette completely, little black on top and on bottom visible.
2nd group below is using a 6 O'clock hold at bottom of sill.

This is the way she shot all day at 50yrds.

Ok... now we will get interesting, I moved to the 100 yrd line to see what this baby could do since I seamed to be having a good day to!

First group was fired at a shoot-n-see, I placed the dot at just a little above 6O'clock in the center as best I could and she was actually shooting about 4 inches high but group size was excellant. This is lower 6 shot group.
Upper 4 shot group I raised my POA just a little from the prior shots and  BAM! dead in.
Keep in mind this is 100yrds on the bench supported by elbows only, No rifle support! WITH an AIMPOINT M2

Ok lets run her through some sustained fire. Last 2 pics were fired with sustained shots 1-2 shots per second with rapid mag changes between. In addition about half of the shots on the first target (sillouette) were fired from standing  "off hand" , I dumped a few but more important the rifle is dead on. Then I went to the bench and set her on my elbows again.
First 2 mags: THIS IS AT 100yrd LINE STILL

Magazines 3 and 4 and a partial mag. NOTE this target was another shooters target that I took over after he left, some of the holes are a bit bigger in the black because he was shooting a .308, There wer 5 of his hits in the black to start.
The high group was fired using a Aimpoint DOT over Black (Black is 6" diameter) As you can see Im about 4-5 inches high using dead on centermass hold. Lower left group I believe, is the result of Mirage The barrel was VERY VERY hot at this point and this was fired using a 6 O'clock Hold.
STILL 100yrds

In all today I fired about 380 rounds through a bran new rifle and had ZERO malfunctions Thats right ZERO

I have to admit that I was a little hesitant about buying a NON Big company rifle, Not because of them , just because I didnt want Junk, Everybody has QQ issues even bushmaster did a few years back, so that didnt concern me especially after I saw how they took care of the guys here on the board.
I have fired and owned Colts and Bushy's and Armalites all are Good but CMMG Uppers are IMHO as good as the Colt and Armalite and better quality than Bushy. It is clear to me that the Barrels that CMMG are using to build up these rifles are Excellant quality and on par IMHO with Higher Dollar makers, In fact I have my suspician that these barrels may be made by one of the HIGH dollar makers and sold to them for their product, they are just to good to not be. I know they are very secretive as to who is making them, and I dont care now that Ive seen them shoot first hand.

If you are thinking about one of their uppers for a build, DO NOT hesitate. Performace is awsome.

thanks for your time

I've got the 14.5" MOD4 upper with perm phantom on a RRA lower and EoTech and that thing shoots like a scaulded dog.  I got the chrome carrier as well without asking.  Fit on my lower was tight, but I'd rather have tight in the beginning than loose.  Two thumbs up here as well for CMMG uppers.

I've had the exact same experience with my 16" Mod 4 upper from CMMG.  It fits my Bushy lower better then the original upper did, and functions perfectly.  If you are looking for an upper, then CMMG is definitely worth looking at.

Good to hear (regarding quality).
Last Wed, I ordered one of their uppers (M4 w/phantom).  It's now Monday, and according to the UPS website, it should be at my door today. Now that's some speedy service!

Ditto I also own a CMMG 16" 1/7 twist M4, your's will do even better once it broken in good and ya get away from the "surplus" 55 grn. ammo your shooting (I'm guessing here by the groups sizes as YOU didn't say what rounds your were shooting).

FWIW, I use BH 77grn. SMKs in mine......

Mike

ps - free-floating the barrel w/ an ARMS S.I.R. or RAS II type forend will also tighten the groups abit too.....

I figured once it gets broke in a little more it would really shine. I forgot to mention that the rounds I was firing were 62gr. IMI "Grey" tip rounds. The Grey tip Round I was told by a fellow Board member are Israeli Match ammo, It aint Blackhills but it is excellant stuff. I have an Order in for some Heavier BH stuff and Have about a Half a case of the 68Gr. BTHP Moly. I havent run it yet, Im waiting for it to warm up a bit first. I mainly wanted to Run some hard stuff through it and Open it up a bit to see How it would run out of the box. Im DAMN Impressed!
