| I found some 5.56 ammo in white boxes that have CMP labels on them. The headstamps have the usual Federal commercial "F C". Does anyone know anything about this ammo? Is it just Federal American Eagle repackaged? |
| Not sure w/o seeing it, but if it is the same stuff I used to buy it is basically Federal Gold Medal Match. Mine has a 69gr SMK and it shoots AWESOME at 200yds. It is my favorite factory .223 of all time. Bought it from the CMP back in 2001 or 2002- for some ridiculously low price. Wish I had bought pallets of it. Still have a few boxes, one of which is sitting in from of me as I type. It clearly says "Sierra Matchking" on the end flap- so if yours doesn't, maybe it is different. |

I saw some in my local fun store. The shipping box said "Federal 5.56 XM193" on the outside. I spoke with the owner and he said that he had ordered the standard Federal XM193 and was shipped the CMP boxed stuff. He called his distributor and his distributor said that it was standard Federal 5.56 XM193 that was packaged in a different 20 round box. CMP had ordered a bunch of XM193 rounds from Federal for use at matches. Federal had a whole bunch of boxes printed for CMP and had extra printed boxes left over. Instead of throwing out the extra 20 round CMP boxes, they used them and now are in our stores. Nothing special...just the regular 5.56 XM193.
I didn't buy any...$13 a box is way too high for me...even though the box says CMP. |
