| Just wondering what the regs are on sights. I have the new CMP book but I didn't see anything about sight restrictions. I see they allow A4 configs but where are the sights?????? Can we use LMT BUIS sights, our own configs, or what???? |
you can do quite a lot, get national match rear sights with 1/2x1/2 or 1/4x1/4 adjustment clicks, hooded rear apertures, 0.40 apertures, narrow and/or trazoidal NM front posts, etc. You can only use the standard design though no BUIS or anything that is not on the carry handle sight |
You can put a A2 carry handle on it. That's about it. You must realize that the purpose of the Service Rifle ODCMP competition is to equalize the playing field with a strictly military style rifle. You can compete with an M16, AR15, M1, M1A or M14. They restrict them to basic service configuration. The A4 flat top is a big step for CMP, but you must still have the A2 carry handle/sight, although you can have "national match" versions of triggers, barrel, handguards, sight apertures, as you have seen from the rules. The barrel can be 1" under the handguards, but must have handguards that look like regular military handguards be they A1 or A2. It's a lot like NASCAR. Your car must fit a template, you can ony use "stock parts" although those parts are tweaked to the edge of what is permissable, but within those limits, everyone is equal. NRA highpower is more like Grand prix Racing. Almost anything goes as long as it has an internal combustion engine limited to so many cubic inches. I like the concept behind service rifle. You have to understand, the DCM (Director of Civilian Marksmanship), or CMP as it is known now was originally founded to teach the youth of America marksmanship, one reason was for preparation for military service, and this has served us well. American soldiers are among the best, if not the best, marksmen in the world. Service Rifle represents the simplest military style marksmanship, that's why they restrict it to strict, basic military configuration. .....sorry for rambling |
