I am well aware that both Colt and Bushmaster make top notch products, but I am a complete newb to AR's and customer service is a big selling point for me. I have read a countless number of posts about how great Bushmaster's customer service is, but haven't read anything about Colt's customer service. I have read so many stories about Bushmaster going above and beyond the call and even servicing and repairing their rifles that were out of warranty. How is Colt's customer service? If you have a problem, will they stand behind their product? Is Colt's customer service as good as Bushmaster's? Thanks |

From what my friends and others here have said, Colt's CS is fairly good. I have also heard complaints....but no more or less than I have heard about other companies. I have found that most of the top tier arms companies stand behind their products very well. I have a feeling that a lot of folks ( NOT all...but quite a few ) who have "customer service issues" are folks who can't communicate very well. It's not to say they are rude, per se, they just can't elucidate what they need from the company. I tend to call, write, get names and send VERY detailed instructions to any company I have service issues with. I have RARELY had issues with customer service. I did have to get nasty with Springfield Armory once but not with the ladies on the phone ( they are all very nice ) I just had to call them on a policy...in writing. They resolved the matter very much to my satisfaction. In short, the better you communicate, the better results you will have with MOST customer service, escpecially the top tier companies. |
| they have done service for me three times and every time the work and customer service were great. i have even had them refinish brand new rifles that had small rub marks and scratches in the finish and they did it with no complaints. a little slower than some companies but the service is good. |

Respectfully, there are many bad reports on Bushmaster Customer Service that is not to say universally Bushmaster CS is no good, because too many positive reviews are there....mine included. Just wanted to offer some balance here Colt CS is very good (m experience) and while I did not have a gun issue they were pleasant, helpful prompt and very positive. (I had serial number research questions) |
annnnnnndddd..........THEY'RE OFF!!!! So far it's Colt's in the lead with Bushmaster trailing by a length.....what the HELL??? The Olyarms Horse, "Monkeyshines" has just jumped off the track and appears to be headingggg, yes, I think he's heading for the beerstand!!!! |
What are the odds. I have money on Colt but I need a long shot. Is there a trifecta? ETA the few times I have called Colt customer service for information have not had any problems. never had to return a defective item though. |
I have it on good authority that Colt is running hotter than ever...go head and put your money down with confidence. |
| I bought a new Colt MT6700 in January this year and only received 1 mag instead of the two that comes with them.I called customer service and was told to send a copy of the receipt.I sent it in and within a week had a new mag delievered to my door.Never had any problems with the Colt's I've owned in the past 30 years and customer service has always been very nice. With the war going on in the mid-east,I'm sure Colt has been behind on a lot of consumer goods. |

A couple of months ago I sent a broken magazine to Bushmaster. They had it replaced and I got a new one after 3 days. Bushmaster has excellent Customer Service. Not sure about Colt's Customer Service. I only own one AR and it is a Bushmaster. I'm sure you will find excellent Customer Service with either company. |
Actually seems like everyone is behaving themselves. |

I read a post here a few years back about Colt's customer service. During the ban a guy sent his preban Colt lower in for some kind of work. Colt somehow damaged it and sent it back to him. He sent it back and complained, citing that it was not easily replaceable, due to the ban and scarcity. It also had markings that were no longer on new Colt recievers. Colt cut his lower up and manufactured him a new on with the same serial number and original markings, along with a rather detailed letter citing the provisions under the ban which made such a replacement legal. |

Some years back I found a crack running from the lower backstrap to one of the lower grip screw bushings on a pre-enhanced Stainless MK IV Series 80 Combat Commander. Sent it in and they tossed the old frame and put my original serial # on a new enhanced style frame-No Charge. Personally I like the old style frames and rat-tail safeties but if I ever want to install a beavertail it should be much easier. It took a month but free is always good. Absolutely no hassles. My impression (and experience) is that Bushmaster customer service used to be AWESOME, and Colt was very hit-and-miss - sometimes really good, and other times totally disorganized and incompetent. However, there seems to be some indication that Bushmaster's customer service may have gotten a little more spotty in the last year or so (maybe because of higher volume), and Colt's has gotten much better and more consistent. So while I'm a die-hard Bushmaster fan, I'm willing to believe that Colt might actually be better now, in terms of customer service. |
Did you have an accident with a 250 Ton Shear? The image I have in my mind is of a Remington Rand 1911A1 remnant that a friend of mine has that went through "Captain Crunch" in the 90's when the Klinton Klan had 1911's, BAR's, M14's, Garands, and just about everything else that was "obsolete" sheared into scrap metal. |
They are really both top shelf. |

The problem with Colt and other firearms companies isn’t customer service, it is consistent customer service. The firearms industry isn’t exactly filled with people that are up on modern Six Sigma and ITIL concepts The firearms industry period, from the makers to the dealers, could use some serious business training instead of running operations like a correctional officer walking the yard |
