I did a search but came up with nothing. I saw on the build it yourself section it can be done. But asked Ken Elmore over at SAW about it. The one I have is a NIB 6921 upper but the FSB looks like crap. Bad forging...and I am suprised it left the factory. It looks as though someone took a dremel to the left side of the base at the forward retaining pin and right at the base of the front site forge near the barrel. Below is what I was told by SAW Ken? I was suprised since in the build it yourself it shows one being removed.

And I Quote"The front sight base (FSB) cannot be changed.  Once it is machined to it’s bbl at the factory—they are like “Siamese parts” forever.

The pin locations are “different” on every single bbl.  COLT does not sell the FSB separately.

The only actual way to change the FSB—is too change the entire bbl assy.  This is the material that we cover in depth during the Armorer classes.

The sight base could possibly be “cleaned up” with buffing wheels—COLT did beautiful FSB’s on the AR’s in the 60’s, but the labor cost is too high now.

It just depends “how bad it is” and what you expect.

The bbl and FSB would have to be re-finished anyway, when the longer flash suppressor gets pinned and welded.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the inquiry,

Ken

I'd say he's pretty much got the right idea. The FSB is drilled with the barrel as a pair. It's possible to change the FSB but difficult. I think ADCO still does it. I'd buy a new undrilled F marked FSB from Bravo and see who can do the work.
