| I have a 20 round steel mag. The floorplate is stamp COLT. Anyways, I was using it in a buddies Bushmaster, and the mag would not feed the last two rounds. His bushmaster mags worked fine. Actually it wasn't that it wasn't feeding, but the mag wouldn't hold the last rounds. It would eject them into the chamber when the bolt came back after firing a round. Even if we inserted the mag with two rounds in it and pull back the bolt, instead of holding the shell, the shell would just pop out into the chamber. Anyone know what would cause this? |

Just because it's stamped "Colt" does not mean that's who made it. I believe you have one of the USA made magazines. Find a USGI made 20, and try it. Your description of the failure is common to the cheaper steel magazines. Load 20 rounds, hold the mag upside down, and shake downward. I bet it'll dump some rounds. A good mag will pass this test. Chad- No. It's a metallurgical issue. The steel used is not strong enough to hold it's shape.(Weither through insufficient, or nonexistant heat treating) One could harden the feedlips with casenit, but I believe you'd be happier with a mag you did'nt have to worry about. Meplat- |
| Yes..... you have a USA mag and NOT a Colt and the feed lips are open too much. You could try forming them closer in very small increments but being a USA mag it's probablly not worth it......the springs are weak and the followers are poor. The mag body steel strength is not a problem but that's about the only thing not wrong with them. Again you COULD get it to work but they are a headache. Buy USGI |
