| My chamber on my 22 is rough inside not from pitting but looks like it was machined that way it has spiral cut marks in it should it be like that? after yesterdays kaboom i have been looking it over very well and was wondering if a guy should use a dremel and polish the inside of the chamber? not sure what to use or if they make something to do it. after yesterday i did notice a little damage to where the extractor sits when the rifle is in battery. i took a points file and took off the mushroomed metal that was in the grove. Thanks Buck |
redline: I wouldn't use a Dremel on your chamber interior, unless you really know what you are doing. If you widen the chamber diameter even a tiny bit more than it should be, you will increase the risk of more burst cartridge cases. I would call or e-mail Paul Gauffin at State Line Gun Shop in New Hampshire at 603 878-2854 or [email protected] He has done hundreds of V-22 chamber repair jobs and will know exactly what (if anything) you need to do. | thanks for the reply i was only going to polish it up a little with flitz not a lot where it would widen up the chamber. the round that went kboom wasn't even chambered all the way the bullet went down the barrel thank god. not sure how it went off but the case is about 1/4 inch shorter now and the metal is mushroomed, split out. sure wish i had my video camera set up to seen what happened which is what i was going to do so i could see how it was cycling. i will give them a call and see what they have to say Thanks again Buck |
Buck, I'm glad you got this squared away. Paul knows his stuff. Did you ask him if he has any spare V-22 extractors in stock? I sold him the remainder of my spare extractors and ejectors several months back. As of two weeks ago, he said he still had a few left. All I have in stock at present are spare V-22 firing pins & springs. (Sorry I missed your call this afternoon. I'll give you a call tomorrow.) Dan |
? This man obviously knows more than me, BUT, I thought 22lr ammo cases were the same diameter as the bullet. My observations of the stingers versus regular 22lr rounds is that the stinger has a little longer case but the bearing surface on the bullet is correspondingly that much shorter. I would be interested to learn more. As for the chamber being rough - was it rough reamed oversize enough that the finish reamer did not have any material to cut? Do they even R/F 22 chambers? |
