Hey, anyone who is near a Cabelas needs to hurry over. I was cruising my local (KC) store this evening and wandered toward the normally empty .223 bulk rack. As I got closer I spotted 6 green sardine cans where empty space is usually kept. Much to my surprise they were 500 rnd Russian .223 (5.56x45) LCB Non-Corrosive. The price tag stated 55gr FMJ. PRICE WAS $99.98 PER CAN!!! I left my wife to stand guard (her right arm is in a cast so I figured she could stand off 2 or 3) while I grabbed a cart. I could only justify getting 4 cans so as of 7:00 pm there were still 1000 rounds left. I checked with one of the gun-counter staff and they said it was basically Wolf 55gr enamaled steel casing in military boxes of 20. He said some of the boxes were even stamped Wolf. I don't plan on opening any soon so I will have to take his word. Bonus was I had a coupon to get a gift card worth 25% of todays purchase good until Dec. (I know I was crazy not to buy all 6) but in order to use the gift card tonight I only took discount on 3 cans and used the gift card to buy the 4th. Still got the ammo for $325 for 2000 rounds. Felt like I was back in the 90's again. |
| Hey Scott, sorry I hadn't read your post before mine, I just thought I was being clever and picked up some ammo at a great price. Didn't intend to hijack your idea. I go to my Cabelas usually once a week and this was the first time I had seen the Wolf sardine cans in the recent past. With all the "out of stocks" recently I figured 2K would be a good buy. |

I should be apologizing to you for hijacking. Like I said, I'm thrilled that you worked Cabela's system and got a good deal. I'm pleased as punch for you, it's some others' attitudes that rub me the wrong way from time to time. I probably shouldn't have used your thread to voice it, it just seemed like an appropriate thread. Congrats again, Scott |

Early last week I scored the last sardine can of Wolf .223 at the Buda Cabelas. Went in to just look around as usual and where the bulk .223 USED to sit, two guys were pointing at the can and the price of $99 saying "gawd damn that sure has went up, no way I'd buy that", then walked off. I hustled over and threw it in the basket and searched the racks high and low for another can, but that was the last one. Didn't even go in planning on buying ammo. Guess now I have a sardine can for SHTF, or investment purposes, whichever.....hell it may be worth more than gold in the future. |
Wolf ammo worth more than gold?
