When I had my barrel threaded after the ban the local gunsmith put the FSB back on canted. It was done through the local gun shop with the gunsmith located off site. He was pretty slow in doing the work and I would like to fix the sight base myself. What tools do I need and what does it take to do it? Should I find another person to straighten it? Thanks.

basically the same tools the gunsmith used minus the lathe.

action block
barrel wrench
punch in sizes for gas tube pin and fsb pins
vise

if it was straight when you sent it off then the barrel is either torqued, cocked in the slot of the upper, not the barrel that you sent him.

i would send it back to the gunsmith, let him know that the sight wasnt canted when you handed it over and would like it back how it is suppose to be. if it was a good guy dealer/gunsmith they will make it right quick if not then they just wanted to grab your money.

Was your FSB pinned in?  Or was it held on with set screws...

If it is pinned, it is normally fairly hard to get back on if it is too canted.

if the fsb was pinned it would have been hard to cant if it wasnt already.

That was what I was trying to say...  much more eloquently put.

The FSB was pinned, but I had a new bayo lug FSB put on. Could that make a difference? probably. Looking at it now it doesen't look that bad. I will try shooting it asap too see how it groups. thanks for the replies!

If you had your gunsmith put a new pinned FSB on, then he screwed it up.  Let him know and see if he goes good for it.  If he doesn't let us know.

Other wise you would need all the other tools mentioned as well as a drill press to re-drill for new pins.
