I have this abomination of an AR15 called the Carbon15. I have removed the BCG and buffer tube and used them in my pistol. I have since made the rifle a dedicated 22LR. The problem i keep running into is the barrel nut/upper receiver. The size/threads seem to be non-spec. No real surprise. I am trying to find a way to replace the oblong shaped handguards with a traditional railed forearm. Does anyone have any suggestions? http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2415/2087112643_504b05b6b4_z.jpg You can't swap forearms on a Carbon 15 for the reason you have already mentioned. |

Hey, I have a Carbon 15 AR pistol and have the same ugly hand guards, and funky barrel nut. I contacted Bushmaster on what it would take to install a standard rail hand guard set up. It seems like it can be done.
Here is their email reply From: Jim Eden <[email protected]>
Subject: RE: RE: Removing handguard on the Carbon 21s To: "Anthony Rukcic" <[email protected]> Date: Friday, February 19, 2010, 1:08 PM Hi, The Carbon 15 pistols with serial number D12144 and higher have upper receivers with a larger barrel nut thread diameter than an AR-15 handguard barrel nut so the AR-15 handguards that replace the barrel nut will not fit. An AR-15 type barrel nut with the larger threads is # 9349054BN-C15 for $12.95, not listed online, can be installed. Handguards like Daniel Defense, GG & G and Midwest Industries that clamp to the barrel nut could be used. A Delta Ring Kit # 8448712K for $13.95 would be used with the Daniel Defense handguard but I am not sure of the others. Care must be taken when installing the barrel nuts, see attachment, or the receiver threads could be stripped. It is a Bushmaster Carbon 15, not a PO. The nut and MI forearm would be cheaper than an upper receiver and an MI forearm. After all, I am only shooting .22LR out of it.
$13 nut + $165 MI Gen2 two piece free float forearm = $178 or $99 PSA A3 upper receiver + $9 barrel nut + $165 MI Gen2 two piece free float forearm =$273 |
