I bought a carbon 15 type 97, was this a mistake?
The other day at the range the bolt assembly split at the bolt cam pin.
I thought I had a misfire, I pulled back the bolt carrier and locked it in place. the front of the bolt assembly was still in the chamber.
Has this ever happened to anyone before. This rifle has a redesigned bolt carrier made out of what appears to be aluminum.
Can you put a standard bolt carrier in this rifle?
Can I put a bushmaster/other upper on this Carbon 15 lower?
Anyone have info on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. However, I cant say I am suprised. Sadly, the answer to your first question is probably yes, buying a Carbon 15 was a mistake. The rifles are pretty much plauged with problems. Thats the bad news.

The good news is if you get in touch with Proffesional Ordnance, www.carbon-15.com/ they will probably be cool about fixing it. My suggestion would be to get in touch with them, get if fixed and sell it to buy a standard, milspec style AR15.

Sorry, man.  you can't put any other uppers on the Carbon 15's.  I beleive the trigger assembly and magazines are the only milspec parts that can be use in them.  There just aren't many options for them.  However, I'm sure they will repair or replace the gun.  If they replace it, you can just sell it to someone as a NIB gun.

gotmine,

Mine had the same problem and if the search was available you would find others.

I do like the Carbon 15...real light and put a reflex on it to stay with the light theme and it is a blast to shoot.

I wrote them a quick note, put the broken parts in an envelope and just about 3 days later received new parts.   Story goes there was some sort of quality problem...I have heard heat treatment issues but don't know for sure.

The bolt is not the same as AR...the Carbon has rounded locking lugs where the AR are squared off.  Could be other differences but dont try to swap them.

Yes, it was a mistake.  The one I had went back twice for repairs in a very short time frame.  I traded it in at the shop that sold it to me.  The next guy who bought it had the bolt break in half like happened to you.  What a POS!  Watch-Six

Do it soon!  PO has filed for bankruptcy.  It's currently one of the "reorganizing" chapters, but most of those fail and end up dissolving the company.
