If you swap out a carrier key for a new one, do you have to buy a new bolt as well? I think I read here that you can't use the old bolt if you replace the key. Any truth to this?

A used carrier should be g2g with a new bolt unless it's just a pos. I'm sure there are exceptions but I've never run into any. Go ahead & make the swap.

Edit: Many manufacturers & smiths would not recommend using an old bolt with a new barrel regardless of carrier but a carrier of good condition with a new bolt isn't typically a problem 99.9% of the time.

Maybe it's a good idea to replace the carrier key SCREWS when replacing the key, but I don't think there's anything about the key that would impact the bolt itself, or vice versa.

As posted above, it is a good idea to change the Key screws, but no worries with the bolt.
