So I'm working on my 3rd AR build and am working on a clone build. This is my first time using a carry handle sight and the aperture holes in both the "large" and "small" sights are insanely small. The only things I have to compare it to are photos on the internet and my Magpul MBUS Pros. Were these just never drilled out to final size? They seem too small to even be a "national match" style peep sight, nearly impossible to get a sight picture. This is on a cardinal forge carry handle.

See photos below, am I going crazy here? You can click on the photo to open in a new window and click again to enlarge it.

Wow. Yeah your 0-200 meter peep was not drilled out correctly. That is WAY smaller than it should be.

ETA- Your 200- peep looks like it wasn't either

Thanks! I thought I was taking crazy pills here when I first put it up to my eye.

Next question, what is the proper hole diameter for the 0-2 sight and the small peep? I will probably just punch them out myself.

Where did that come from? If it was new it should go back.

Yeah I would normally, unfortunately it came with a CMMG 22lr upper I bought used from a guy. I don't mind drilling it out to correct size, it just caught me by surprise. I figure cardinal forge is good to go, unless the parts that make it up are not stock.

Honestly I'm not sure what the diameter sizes are  but here's some pics of correctly drilled USGI peeps to give you an idea

Looks like you might need to drill out the entire convexed portion on the 0-200 meter peep

You are not crazy at all.  But those are crazy small!
I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I definitely haven't either. Imagine trying to see a human sized target through that. Freakin peep sight for ants.

Thanks for the photos, I think I read here the larger is 0.200" (13/64 drill should work) and the smaller is 0.070" (1/16 or 5/64 will be close enough). I'll check my MBUS and see what size they are, ballpark around that too.

I know right, there is almost no light coming through and I have my nose over the charging handle. I googled and couldn't find another case of this. Crazy this passed through the line and this guy I bought it from has had it some years and never thought this was crazy.

I grabbed what I think is a Bushmaster clamp on and lg hole will pass a 3/16 drill but not a 7/32
                                                                                    sm hole will pass a 1/8 bit but not a 5/64

not exact but will get you started

I'm guessing it is a National Match aperture.

[#15]
Yeah, the National Match are pretty small.  Helps to give more depth of focus (can see target better while focusing on front sight) as well as make sight more precise.

I think you may be right. I don't have a drill bit that small but found an allen that is .035 flat to flat, it fits through the larger site but not the smaller, so that works with the .030 and .040 of that national match. I can't believe these are even usable, the .030 hole I can't even get a clear picture out of and that with pushing the charging handle into my upper lip I'm so close.

Next question, is it too bubba of me to just want to drill these out to the standard size? This is just on a 22lr upper for plinking steel as a M4gery.

New apertures are less than $10 online; you could just buy a new one if you don't want to drill out the whatever-the-hell it is you have right now. That's a new QC issue on me, that's for sure!

Before you go and start drilling.

I would sell it and buy a new one. You check the price difference between a NM carry handle and a regular one.

Next thing you need to find out is it 1/4 or 1/2 moa clicks. Count how many clicks for full turn.

50= 1/4

25= 1/2
3/4/2017 11:54:38 PM EDT
[#25]
If I'm not mistaken, the number of clicks for a full turn are the same on both, but the NM has a finer thread pitch, so it doesnt move as far per click.

They changed the site a bit while you were gone. @MILSPEC556, you gotta use the "at" to notify someone.

The small aperture is pretty damn small, surely smaller than the 0.040" I use. It's probably good for only the brightest of days while slung up prone. The 0-2 certainly should be drilled out - I'd like it at the small's standard which is 0.076" I think?

It's on "W" for Wumbo, you gotta turn it to "M" for Match.
