I bought a 20" flat top rifle for my son. I added a carry handle and noticed for the first time that they have windage and elevation.
When/why would I use this rear elevation vs. the front sight pin? I assume I sight it in with it cranked all the way down? Thanks. |

There are a lot of military manuals that show you how to set the front/rear A2 sights up to return to zero, and to use the clicks to adjust for different distances. It's not complicated, but it is not worth the time trying to track for 99% of us.
I personally just get the sights on at 50m (or whatever distance you want) and just leave it at that. As long as the elevation isn't close to being maxed out UP/DOWN on either the front or rear sight, that gives you more than enough room to make minor adjustments on the fly with only your rear A2 sight. |

Thanks. I figured it has been discussed before, I will look on the interwebs. I thought I had posted in the basics forum. This was helpful for me. There are many out there, might as well read as many as you can. I love carry handles, and I love sighting them in correctly so I can play with them. If you don't plan on using the adjustments, as the other poster stated, you can just pick your most common distance and sight it in. I would probably still use the Z setting, if for nothing else, just so you can easily remember where it was if you ever do move it. |
