I picked up this carry handle, sight unseen and sold as a Colt. I notice it is different than the current style. Its rounded in the front like an A1 upper. Does anyone know when this style was used and on what models possibly? Also it doesn't quite sit flush on the upper in the rear under the sight.

Stag carry handle for comparison

I have the same one on my Colt R6700 (Preban early 90's)

I had two of those.  They were on the two 6700s I bought about 25 years ago when the model was first introduced.  I believe they are uncommon, maybe even rare.

"AH" forge mark?

Was there an early Anchor Harvey mark like this?

It is grey as well. Not like my stag one.

Not 100% certain, but I believe that to be an Anchor Harvey forge mark.  At least one or two of the Colt handles that I've owned over the years had that mark.

For reference, here's a pic of one of my early 6700 handles:

ETA:  OP, gray would be the correct color for this handle.

I see yours has a different forge. Are these desirable or worth more than a regular handle? What years were they used?

I'm no expert, but I've owned a bunch of Colt ARs over the last 30 years.  To the best of my knowledge, these CHs only appeared on the early 6700s.  No idea of numbers produced, but if I had to guess, I'd say the quantity probably compares to the early Colt large-pin flattop uppers.

Hard to say whether they're more desirable or valuable.  I sold the one pictured above for $125 last year.

It's definitely an older style flat top carry handle off of a Colt. Seeing as it's a 6/3 it must have came off of a carbine length Colt originally. I love it tho. If you ever decide to sell it let me know i'd love to own one of these

I've never seen a Colt removable carry handle sight that wasn't 6/3 (except on the 7.62X39 guns).  6700s are 20".

I've always believed that the reason an elevation knob on a detachable handle reads 6/3 versus 8/3 is because the rear sight base stem is shorter, therefore not allowing as much vertical travel; I don't believe it has anything to do with barrel length.
