Bought a scope mount today. The forward mount or Z type. What sight works best with this?

Aimpoint Comp M2 in an Aimpoint QRP mount or an A.R.M.S. Comp II M68 mount. That is my opinion.

Thanks.

Any way to tell if this is older? Has someone always made these?

That specific mount and design is the Aimpoint "goose-neck" mount designed and manufactured by Aimpoint specifically to interface the M68CCO, an Aimpoint CompM (and subsequently CompM2, CompM4, and CompM4S) in the Aimpoint QRP mount (and subsequently the QRP II mount) with the M16A2 fixed carry handle.

It could be from basically any time between 1996 (when the M68CCO was adopted) and about oh, say 2010-ish, as Aimpoint introduced a product improved version with a "U" shaped bracket to help further secure the mount to the carry handle.

It's not mfg by aimpoint. Or is, but also copied by one or 2 more manufactures. I have 1 left over from an A2 the wife was running an old Hakko RDS.  No markings on it to say who made it. It's a nice set up for RDS cowitness on the A2.

Just about everything out there has been copied.

There are many different types of "goose-neck" style mounts out there.

This particular design is designed for use with Aimpoints.

Some of the production may have been subcontracted out to other manufacturers for the government (e.g. P&S versus KAC M4 RAS).
