Do the carry handle scope mounts return to zero? I ask because I use a scope for hunting but would like my rifle to be ready in the house as well, then be able to screw my scope on to head to the field. Any specific ones that are best? And ones to stay away from(like the plastic ones obviously)?
Thanks

Eta: what about the leupold mount?

Tolerances are definitely going to vary by manufacturer.  Price would be a good indicator of the level of machining that goes into the product (the old "you get what you pay for").  Definitely stay away from synthetics.  The biggest problem I see would be the inability to snug it down consistently, they all use some form of hand-tightened mount, so you can't use a torque driver for repeatable mountings.

If you must use a carry-handle mounted scope, there are some other options for close range home defense - a mini red dot on a quad rail, on on one of the mounts that attach to a standard handguard.  A laser might be another option, but the mini red dot has more practical applications, in my opinion.

What type of handguard do you have?

*Disregard this.   I assumed you had a fixed carry handle.   Mounting directly to your A3 upper will always be a better option than a carry handle mount.

I always endorse the ARMS #2.   It fits snug and I have never had the thumbscrew come loose.   If you are going to use a scope rather than a red dot then I would get the extended #2 so you can get your scope more forward.

I actually have yhm quad rails for my light and occasionally a bipod(when i had the scope on). I cant afford a flip up buis yet and i have a quality carry handle which is what I learned and qualified on anyways, so I dont mind it.  Would I be better off just poppin my carry handle off and putting my scope mount on fr hunting? I am pretty sure the A4 removable handles return to zero correct?  And I know the armalite scope mount i have does. If the carry handles are return to zero then I will just do that, because i also think i would hate my trajectory with the scope that high off bore axis...

Be careful mounting a scope that high above the bore. You may have issues zeroing.

Your scope may not be able to adjust far enough for the height. Then again, you also might not have any problems
at all.

Just be careful.
