I have an Armalite A2 style rifle w/ a fixed carry handle.  I am considering changing out the upper to a flat top so I can put a scope on it, but I also thought to myself, self, what about a carry handle scope mount.  However, it seems like w/ the scope so much higher than the bore, it would just be kind of a weird shooter.  You guys that have carry handle mounted scopes or have shot them, how did you like them?

I hated it ... there is no cheek weld so holding a steady eye relief distance and target picture was really hard.IMHO

With a very high scope height, even a slight cant will screw up your shots at long range.

I have one and I like it.  When comparing handloads I shoot benchrest with a scope.  Also, when removing and replacing it, it's pretty repeatable although I don't care where the shots hit, just group size.  If you have a .22 conversion it is definitely a known distance only shooter.

ARMS makes a good one that locks down tight but you still have to deal with the fact that you have a scope sitting way too high.

I did like my Aimpoint Comp mL2 on top of the CH but eventually went to a flattop. YMMV

I had one and it worked out to 200+ yards - and that was with a Prismatic (1X) mounted waaaay high.  You'd be well advised to find out how much you will need to compensate at close ranges (under 20 yards), though - or you'll have a nasty surprise during a close quarter self defense situations.  Lots of practice will overcome, though.

One thing I hated about mounting sight above the carry handle - sore neck after a prolong shooting from the prone.

These replies are pretty much what I was expecting.  I guess I'll just change out the upper to a flattop.  Or maybe just buy a new rifle, do it the Arfcom way and get both
