I picked his up a while ago and was wondering if anyone had information about it.  It's drilled for the front sight but not for the sling mount or the pins.  The front isn't ground flat.  Maybe it was a reject that someone later parked and drilled the sight?   Thought it was interesting.  It's too bad someone drilled all the way through.

looks like it's from Olympic Arms to me...I don't remember off hand if they are drilled with drain holes or not

ETA: just dug through my parts box....Olympic cast fsb's are drilled with the drain hole

Ok, thanks.  What did Olympic buy the old molds and cast their own or did they have some made?

Olympic did plenty of casting back in the day.  It's quite cost effective and there are a lot of cast parts on an AR... Hammer, trigger, sight apperture, bolt catch, etc.

Here's a pic from the tacked M16 guide post, the vertical part of the rear post is much thinner on a Colt cast FSB.  I think it would be very difficult to grind it thinner because material needs to be removed from the interior surfaces.

There are round casting marks on the other side too, you might be able to touch an end mill there and simulate the mark.
