I cant seem to find it anywhere..... what is the difference between a cast lower and a forged one. Difference in quality? Any explanation would be helpful.

Forged is the way a lower is supposed to be made.
Very few companies made cast lowers to begin with, and nobody makes cast lowers anymore.
If that doesn't sell you on it, there are numerous examples of cast lowers breaking.

Forgings are much more durable than castings due to the layered granular structure induced by the forging process.

Castings can be very neat and clean, and they require less machining because they can be made to a near net shape.  Though they have a very even granular structure....it isn't as dense as a forging and the lack of any forced layered boundaries allows any weakness to propagate unchecked.

Thank you for all the input so far. I recently bought a Essential Arms preban lower and haven't heard much about the differences in cast versus forged receivers. I was just wondering if this was a good choice and would not affect the rifle.

I have no first hand experence with essential arms lowers, but I have read that older ones are cast, at least some, but the newer ones are forged. I could be way off base though.

Has anyone out there that has had experience with these lowers? What about the quality and reliability?

Crap don't get one pure shit.  I have a cheap DPMS cast lower and it is shit.   Bad surface texture, paint comes off, feels cheap so get forged much better.
