I'm probably going to buy one of the Ruger new 308's.  One problem, however.  I NEED to find the spent brass and I'd like to not spend all day doing it.  Any suggestions?

I'd stay away from anything that attaches the rifle unless your okay with a malfunction or a piece of brass escaping every now and then. If that is unacceptable, I'd look at this: http://www.bubca.com/bubca-i-systems.html

For a lot of applications, this one works great:

It's a UTG product from Midway, and it works really well.  On the other hand, if you need to be able to catch your brass without attaching something to your gun, there are options,, including the Bubca catcher.  You can find a brass catcher that looks an awful lot like a fishing net on a bench stand (because that's all it is), and you can find all sorts of other similar dodges.  Or you could build your own like I did.  I used a mesh laundry bag and built a CPVC frame to attach the mesh to, then I built legs to hold it up on the bench.  It works great.

Shoot over a big tarp if your not shooting off a bench.  If your shooting on a bench just get a cardboard box about the size of a milk crate and set it up next to you so that it catches the brass.

Don't bother with those cheap catchers, you will not be happy.  I've wrestled with a couple different ones and have never been happy.  They cause failures, do not stay in place and you can forget about shooting and moving with them.

Get one of these and don't look back.  Its been perfect and has not caused a single failure even while using it in a 3-gun match.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this but one of the guys i shoot with uses women's stockings with a wire to keep them open and a hook that hooks over the top of the carrying handle. It's cheap and effective. Next time i go out i will take a pic if he will let me.

Ive seen in the reloading forum a thread where a guy used a cheap mesh laundry bag modded to a fishing net for a brass catcher. Try and find it. It was pretty good.

The cheap Caldwell strap on catch bag seems to work pretty well for me.  I have a slim, smooth, free float modular handguard.  The Velcro attachment band seems to wrap around it and hold the bag against the ejection port  pretty well.   As cheap as it is, I'd recommend giving it a try before rejecting it out-of-hand.

I use the 3BUCC brass catcher, works great on my 300 Blackout, no malfunctions- ever

Got mine from Brownells
