All,

This may have been covered elsewhere and if so if you can point me to where I would appreciate it.  I did a site search and only came up with a couple of CavArms threads kind of on topic, but none exactly on point.  My issue is this - My wife has a complete CavArms SBR build where I am down to two items, one of them related to mounting a flashlight posted in another thread and one of them being how to properly smooth down a nagging seam.

On the pistol grip on her rifle there is a raised and kind of sharp seam on the pistol grip.  I figure a rounded file or sandpaper will easily smooth it down, but how do you re-texture the area so it blends in with the normal look of that area?

Thanks,

Phil

Take a sharp knife or chizel and just shave the raised part off. This wont affect the surrounding areas like a file or sandpaper would.

I used a standard box knife for the stock and the linear edges.

When it came to the corners, inside the trigger guard, pistol grip etc., I went to an Xacto knife, with better control, you can follow the curves with no marring of the parts.

How did you mark the Lower for the SBR?

razor blade for the seam. Couldn't be easier.

All,

OK, let's see if I can maybe go at this from a different angle.    If I want to slightly, ever so slightly, re-contour the area where the grip meets the trigger guard; how would I do that and then get the texture to approximate what is currently there?  As to the question of marking the lower for the SBR - I had the barrel engraved by my FFL/SOT/manufacturer/advisor.

Thanks for the quick replies,

Phil
