Anyone know the specifics regarding this kit?

Who makes the barrel? (I would imagine at the price point it's probably GreenMountain.)

Bolt MFG?

I am assuming you are asking about this Kit

I have no idea but you could always call and ask I bet.

Well, not exactly. It might look like an old generation CMMG but, most all the .22 kits do as the are based on the same design. The pattens have run out so they can copy it.

The magazine is NOT CMMG! Also, if you look at the rails they are welded on the inside...CMMG just welds the outside. Then there is the firing pin retainer. CMMG switched over this to a M-16/AR=15 type cotter pin some time back. This bolt has the old roll pin retainer.

Easy mistake to make..they all look so much alike. The Devil is in the details.

Yes, that's the kit.

My suspicion was either a parts kit put together from older/previous hardware versions, or something brought over on a boat from Chi-land.

I have seen many many cmmg kits and every now and then I do see some with the welds on the inside too, infact I
have one that I kept because of the welds on both sides as I know its beefed up
I'm thinking those centerfire 22 kits and barrels are old Spikes stock as the collar is .500 and so is the barrel shank +
the kit is plated and I dont know of any other plated kits like those other than a spikes.
The machine work looks like the spikes too as I have seen many.
These are some pictures from one of those centerfire barrels and collars

.
.
and to 00Ghost00 I have seen green mountain 22 barrels that shoot dime size groups at 50 yards
but the machine work on them was much better that what is on these centerfire barrels.

Interesting, so possibly/probably Spike's stuff. Didn't they use GM barrels originally?

I'm not trying to imply GM barrels are inferior. I was just under the impression that they are usually on the lower end of the price/cost spectrum. (for the AR 22LR barrel)

So for an intro DIY 22LR kit would you consider it sub-par, or acceptable? Better off putting something more reliable together with newer products on the market?

It's essentially a bolt and barrel for $99/each.

I think you hit the nail on the head MGP.  The Centrrfire system sure looks like what Velocity is selling.  Considering the price I think it probably came from the same source as  the barrel bolt the Velocity is selling.   A friend of mine bought a Velocity upper off gunbroker  6 or 7 years ago.  After ditching the magazine and replacing the springs he finally got it to run.   For my money I bought a CMMG barrel and used a 1st gen CMMG conversion bolt.  This combo will probably last a generation or 2.

Redtazdog, that stuff looks Rough... More Spike's old production than anything from CMMG...

Velocity Uppers made their run here a ways back. Those that jumped on board had regrets.

I think I can do better machine work with a wood lathe
I'm sure i can do some polishing and tuning to get these barrel and 22 kit combo to run good
like mabe trim and convert the barrel for a cmmg collar and tune the 22 kit to even run decent.
I get many of the old style cmmg kits and they all work great with the 223 adapter converted to a collar or with the new collars,
they may not have the extra's but for a basic kit they run good.
The old stock cmmg 22 kits always have run better than a spikes kit big time.
