I recall seeing a tutorial on the 'net somewhere that showed the installation of a Centurion C4 rail. I've Google'd it 6 ways to Sunday to no avail. I found a vid on You Tube but that's not the one I'm looking for.

If someone could share a link what I've described, it would be greatly appreciated.

There is a youtube link for it somewhere.

I appreciate the effort gents but, as my own quoted text shows, unfortunately that's not what I'm looking for.

What are you trying to figure out?  Not being a smartass but you put it on over the barrel nut and tighten down screws....takes all of two min to put on

There is not many videos of Centurion rails on YouTube (less then half a dozen), but here's a video with a small segment on how to install one.

Starts at :56.

In my instance, your summary of the installation process oversimplifies things a bit.

I'm looking to install a mid-cut rail on an upper that has a 14.5" bbl, permanently attached flash hider, and plastic hand guard on it, along with all the associated parts (hand guard cap, delta ring and spring) on it. What I'm trying to determine is if I really need to unpin and move the FSB so the gas tube can be removed to prevent potentially damaging it when removing the unnecessary parts.

The first Youtube video linked in this thread shows that process but the whole affair reeks of WECSOG which ain't my style, if I can help it. The 2nd video in this thread glosses over the installation process and even then, it's done in the context of a bare upper with only a barrel on it.

Perhaps I'm recalling a series of pictures that covered the installation of a different rail system because if Stickman doesn't remember it (as it pertains to Centurion rails), then it likely does not exist.

I have a pinned flash hider on my 14.5" barrel.  Just snip off the end cap with a pair of tin snips and pliers and install the c4.  Honestly it really is that simple.

edit: i guess I didn't answer the question, sry

+1.  I did my 14.5" in about a half hour without pulling the barrel or FSB:

1. Pull gas tube
2. Wrap receiver and barrel with old T-shirts for protection
3. Dremel through Delta ring in two places, crack with pliers and remove
4. Pull weld spring apart and off
5. Snip handguard cap as close to the FSB as possible in two places 180 degrees apart
6. Grab onto handguard cap on either side of one cut and start flexing until it fatigues and fails
7. Repeat flex process on other cut
8. Reinstall gas tube
9. Mount rail
10. Profit!

Thank you for posting that HD.

So once the gas tube pin is removed from the FSB, it can just be pulled out of the FSB, slid back into the upper receiver and removed, correct?

That would be correct.

Yep - rotate it after it's back to get the clearance you need.

Roger that.

I took a close look at the gas tube pin and with the right tools, it will be a piece of cake. Now I just need to find a front sight bench block.

Matt_B, I was able to remove the end cap without removing the gas tube and FSB.  I couldn't get the pins off the FSB so I took a different route.

Wrapped the barrel and FSB with painter's tape and got to work on the cap with tin snips.  It's very easy to cut through and once you've made cuts in a few places, a little bit of twisting and pulling with pliers will do the trick.  The rail install is pretty self-explanatory.  Just make sure you line it up straight with your flat top and tighten each screw little by little.  Good luck.

Thanks deviljon. I'm cool with the actual install the rail (it's looks easy peasy) but prep'ing the rifle for the install - that's the part I'm treading lightly on. If can just "snip" off the handguard cap, that's great. What about the delta ring though? How did you deal with that while having the gas tube still on?

Delta ring was carefully dremeled off with the surrounding parts taped off and protected.  Dremel on 2 opposite sides (if the gas tube is 12 o'clock then cut at 3 and 6) until a good amount of the inner metal is exposed.  Go slowly.

Once that's done you can grab a flat-headed screwdriver to pry it apart in a rotating motion (as if you were screwing or unscrewing).  The delta ring should snap right off into 2 pieces.  The remaining spring and snap ring can be dremeled or removed with pliers.

You need to remove the gas tube first.

Punch gas tube pin out, slide tube rearward into upper receiver so as to clear fsb, shift tube slightly to one side and slide it forward and out.
Gas tube pin is one of the easiest to remove. Not much resistance compared to taper pins.  No special tools needed for this removal, just a wood block or other solid surface to rest the barrel on.

Now you have a clear shot at the delta ring. Grab a dremel with a cut-off wheel, line up your cut with any notch of the barrel nut to give yourself a margin of error and slice away.
Take your time and check your cut and you should have no problem.

One tip, you might want to cover surrounding areas with tape, plastic bag or grease them up. Makes removing the metal shavings a little easier.
