Now I am ready to be flamed for my new guy question.

So I am still a but fuzzy about the different calibers out there.  The standard round is a 5.56mm NATO round, right?  Lets say I want to change to a 6.8mm round.  I understand that is closer to an AR-10 but I see a lot of them floating around.  Is that just a different upper and magazine or are there changes to the lower as well?

Go back out to the main AR forum page and you will see two forums, variants and pistol/rimfire calibers.  tons of info there.  Two slots below AR discussion.  There is a sticky list with every known caliber.
