I'm a left handed shooter and I've often wished for a different means of retaining the charge handle than the latch.
I have contemplated replacing the latch with a ball detent. With the ball detent, the handle would be retained by the spring loaded ball engaging a female indentation. Am I tragically ignorant of some design criteria that mandates that the charging handle be latched? Is there a failure mode that would make my ball detent idea dangerous (pierced primer or ???)? Educate me. |

Try it out.
I think the most obvious drawback is the need to modify the receiver - which most people aren't as likey to do. I see the logic in the OEM part, as it creates an "interference" that needs to be overcome by a difinitive action. Just make sure your set-up doesn't 1: increase effort needed to operate. 2: needs enough effort that it doesn't pop open unexpectedly. |
