Hello,

I posted the topic on the problem with the bolt not functioning correctly (difficult to charge).  I've narrowed the problem down to the charging handle.  When I compare the two charging handles I have, the hole in the center is offset.  The one that works is offset to the left, the one that doesn't is offset to the right (when looking at the hole in the handle--narrow end toward you).  The difference between the left and right side offsets is about .15".  Are either of the conditions normal?  I've never realized there might be an offset (never had to look that closely).

The owner of the rifle with the problems said that he had difficulty getting rounds to chamber, and I wonder if this thing rubbing the gas tube wrong may have been the contributing factor.

Anyone run into this before?  I'm debating whether to either buy a new charging handle or dremel out the one I have.  Anyone have experience on grinding out a charging handle?

If it is pushing the gas tube out of alignment then yes, it could be interfering with the bolt closing.

No, but I'm not surprised.  It's should be easy enough to jsut widen the hole. Or just buy a new charging handle.  They are not that expensive and if the hole is wrong then who knows what other issues it may have.
