Yes this is more or less normal. Be aware however, there are charging handles out there that are "undercut" by .020 to .030 inches on the open bottom of the U channel ahead of the charging handle. The last ones I got were from Lone Star Wholesale at a recent gun show. I don't think this will completely stop the occurrence, but it has reduced it on the rifles I put the handles on. Is this really a big issue?......NOT HARDLY! woofe |

One of the reasons I like my military style rifles so much more than my pretty hunting rifles is the fact tht they still look awesome if they're kind of beat up and well used.
Don't get me wrong, I try to take good care of all my weapons, but if the ARs or M1s get a beating, they still look good and I know they can take it like a champ -Dan |
| I had a charging handle scrape the top of my upper receiver before, every reload you'd get that smell of metal on metal sparks, to the point that the top of the handle was silver. I swapped out the charging handle and haven't had a problem since. If you have an extra one put it in and see if the problem continues. But in the greater scheme of things having some wear on the receiver extension is fine. |

If it has taken the finish off completely then there is something not right. I have used my rifle heavily for years and it does not even come close to what you are describing. LOL not so heavy use then... one charge per year is not heavy use. I have never seen a rifle that did not do this.... EVER. Yo uALWAYS get the two straight silver lines on that flat spot at the top rear of the lower receiver. |
