I am starting my upper build. Looking for a cheap upper receiver possibly complete. Not complete upper, just the receiver portion. Any out there?

I highly recommend you rethink going with the "cheapest" offering. I'd keep my lower, upper, and BCG all the same mfg. Some large frame builds have been nightmares for some whereas others have had relatively trouble-free builds. I've completed three Aero M5 builds, all with minor issues that were easily resolved.

If you don't have the lower, this would be a great start...  Aero M5 Combo

What lower have you acquired?

you won't beat the deal I posted and it's quality stuff

all you would need is a barrel which you can get for 125(kak) and a bcg, recommend adk arms for 125.

Yep, Aero makes great stuff for great prices. Go to their site to keep an eye out for blemished parts at reduced prices. I bought a blemished upper from them and all I can guess is that they ran out of blemished parts and sent me a flawless one at the blemish price because they're good guys. I couldn't find a scratch on it anywhere.

I'll second that advice!!!!!!

There is NOT any set of industry wide standards for the .308 AR rifles like there is for AR15 rifles. You are better off sticking with one manufacturer for your upper and lower receivers (along with BCG and bolt catch) to insure proper fit and function.
There is also slight differences in bolt catches and take down pins among the different manufacturers.

I built mine using all PSA parts and receivers.

What's your lower?

We don't even know that yet.

I agree.  If you just get the cheapest upper you can, you'll regret it pretty soon.  You may as well spend your money on a cheap bolt gun.  The ruger americans are capable of sub-moa and you can catch the 308 and 223 ones on sale around $300.  Wait until you can afford a decent upper for your AR before wasting your cash on junk you'll regret.

added to my list above, a complete aero lower at 325  which makes your total build at 730....

I mean, where are you going to find this for 705?

your choices of upper are determined by what lower you have.  random mix-n-match on the AR-308 is worse than Las Vegas odds.  Good Luck with that!

They were actually $199 back in August (some locations even had them for $184, apparently).  Google 'ruger American walmart' and you should see tons of noise online about those sales.  I just checked gunwatcher and there's a few places online with the 308 american around $340.

Here's a stripped Aero upper (308) for $99

http://www.riflegear.com/p-5798-aero-precision-m5-308-stripped-upper-receiver-anodized-black.aspx

I've found the upper receivers on my 308 rifles to be just as easy as the AR15 versions.

I had considered building one...  until I found Academy Sport's Black Friday sale.
They had DPMS .308's for $689.

Not sure you can build any frankengun .308 for that.

Obviously not a high-end gun... but great for a budget .308 semi.

dealer in Toulon Il has ruger Americans in all calibers for $279-$299 all the time, well at least all last year, I haven't been there in a month or two.
I've been tempted to jump on one

Not trying to hijack the thread, but since somebody asked, I just saw a camo American in 308 on slickguns.  $299 and $19 shipping.  Comes with a scope and rings.

Not a bad price but I think most here are after something with a shorter and threaded barrel.

That gun listed is marketed to the same crowd buying the cheap Savage Axis and Remington 770.
