I have completed my build (well, the upper should be here in a few weeks, everything else is done) but don't have a stock. Waiting on a UBR to come in stock at several places but don't want it to hold up trying out my new AR.

So I thought I would get an 'interim' stock. However, I don't wish to spend gobs of cash since it will just hold me over until my UBR gets here.

Anybody have any advice on a cheap stock (preferrably collapsible) that is halfway decent?? I don't need the best but at the same time don't want a total piece of junk.

Go with the Vltor EMOD, you'll be glad you did.

I gave up on getting a UBR months ago.

What jcrowl said. UPS delivering one today as a matter of fact. Like you I got tired of waiting on Magpul to put UBRs on the shelves.

Lots of good choices.

And a newb question. What does MOE stand for??

I really like the UBR and was wanting to use it on my first build but you made me realize there are other stocks that are just as good. And I guess I can pick up a UBR if and when they ever get stocked up.

My vote for MOE.  It does what you want it to and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get it.

MOE= Magpul Original Equipment

MOE Stock, MOE Grip, MOE Back Up Sights shown in the image below.

Id say, if its a throw away, UTG.  If you want a backup stock, get an MOE.  $50 and you can use it on your next build

Im not going to lie, I bought a chinaman bootleg VLTOR EMod on ebay and I love it, its very high quality and I would buy another for sure. Its on my duty M4 (US Army) and its going with me to Iraq and I have no doubt that it will survive.

I only bought a chinaman one because I wasnt going to spend $150 on a buttstock thats going to get all trashed up anyways.

Go to the Equipment Exchange and order a CAR stock assy. from TheTicOO.  $39 delivered, and better than it should be for that price.

I would just buy an EMOD and forget about the UBR. Spend the money you save on ammo.

U-T-G, this is whats on my gun and its as good as any of the other commercial M4 stocks like BCM and others, and you can always put a commercial MOE on the buffer tube llater ike I'm planing to do with mine.

MOE

reasonably priced and high quality

and made by magpul

you may decide you like it and keep it

if not you can easily sell it or keep it for a future build

I don't mean to offend anyone, but IMHO the standard buttstock just looks like something that belongs on a toy rifle.

Add another vote for the Magpul MOE... you can't beat it for the price, plus they make it in commercial and milspec versions.

Either way they look and feel cheap and plasticky...
I don't see or feel this with my MOE.

well, they are cheap and plastic, hate to break it to you, but so is the moe, ctr, a1,a2,  All plastic, all under $50 except the ctr but thats cause the friction lock.  I think the ubr is plastic(not cheap tho).  Pretty sure all stocks besides ace are plastic.  Some people dont care about looks, whilst some love the m4 look.

I used CTRs on all of my carbines but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the standard M4 stock.

+1 Magpul MOE stock

My MOE stock works pretty good and a lot better than my LMT M4 stock.

I use my MOE mainly for practice and it feels the same as my other CTR stock which is for my SHTF/ zombie role.

I have a UTG on mine right now.  If you are looking for a temporary one it is fine.  I got mine from Cheaper Than Dirt before the election for $50, receiver extension, and the whole 9 yards.  However I am going to replace the stock with a CTR.

I shudder just thinking about how much LMT makes off of each SOPMOD sold at the MSRP of $199. And yet I love them to death.
