| I currently have a Spikes M4 LE, flat top, with a Sampson flip up rear. I am looking to mount some sort of optic / scope for 100 yard plinking, nothing serious. Most scopes / optics I see around here, people are paying bookoos for them. Anyone using a cheap(er) scope? I am looking to spend about $100................ |

The only sight I can recommend in that price range is the Vortex Strikefire with the red dot only (vs. the red/green dot). It's probably the best optic out there for what you're looking to spend. Really any new optic under $150= Trust me, I've had more than enough experience with crap optics to back up my contention.

They seem to be pretty darn good especially for the money. I would have one if I didn't just buy a truck the other day; I'll still get one very soon. |
ALL of my hunting rifles have cheap tasco's/bushnells. Which have a lot more recoil than a .223 I guess it depends on what your shooting at. I don't have the place to shoot over 200yds though. I can't shot .5moa at 600yds though like half the people on here either.

Sorry, but $100 won't get a an optic worth using. Please don't take offense, just work with your iron sights until you can afford an optic worthy of your hard earned money. Completely wrong....OP look here for ideas |

Heck, $100 will barely get a mount worth using. Save up, eat more Ramen, and get someething better. Also, consider watching the EE for something gently used. |

Well, I have used one of these for quit a while, hog kill'n and the like, go on sale occasionally for $59. Works fine, would I go to battle with it, maybe, if its all I had. I wonder if everyone who insists on the highest priced optics always buy the highest priced brake pads, or tires, oil, air filters etc for their cars and trucks. Do they wear a helmet when they ride? No doubt that the high priced optics touted on this site most often are much higher quality, just some folks can spring for them, at least right away.

http://www.samplelist.com/ViewProducts.aspx Check the Sample List often. I bought a Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5x4.5 scope for $150. It's a decent low powered scope for AR's |
| If all you are doing is daylight range plinking, just find something that will take the recoil and hold zero. Getting a good scope is about the quality of the glass and the build of the scope so that they will operate well in adverse conditions. If you're just taking it to the range and messing around, get a Bushnell something or other. Just be sure to get decent rings. I'm a fan of Warne and they're hard to beat for $30. |
