Looking for a fairly cheap lockable hard case that I can fit a 16" carbine in. I am planning on bring my AR with me to Arizona next month and TSA says the case has to be hard sided and lockable. Any suggestions?

I purchased an SKB case seveal months ago.  It has 2 TSA approved locks on two of the four latches.  The interior is fairly well padded and it has held up very well in the back of my cruiser for the past several months with no issues or visible damage.  I believe I have the 4410 model that is about the same size as the smaller Pelican model.  My carbine has plenty of room, even with the stock fully extended.  I gave about $100.

I've got some cheap Doskocil Gun Guard double cases from Big 5; they go for about $20 on sale.  They're OK for hauling stuff to the range, but have a few problems:

- The handle's 2 piece, and when you pick it up when it's got something in it, it squeezes together and can give you a nasty blood blister if you're not careful.

- They're fairly flexible, and really need locks in all the locking points, or you can just open one of the latches and pull it open far enough to slide something out.

- The foam doesn't hold anything heavy in place very well.  When I carry 2 guns in it, I always put them in gun socks so they don't scrape against each other as they settle to the bottom of the case.

I'd seriously think about something a bit sturdier for airline travel.
