Hello guys and possibly girls,

I'm on my way with building a new AR.  This is going to be the CHEAPEST and hopefully Light weight AR.  Its going to be my throw over my shoulder and take my dirt bike down a dirty path and not care if it falls or gets dirty scratched or anything.  I also want to not care what kind of bullets i feed it I.E. cheap steel case or not care about the grains.   I also want it to be easy as possible so im going for complete upper and complete lower lol . I just got done building a fancy long range shooting AR now i want a cheapy to be my sidekick on random acts of stupidity and not just have to rely on my pistols to accompany me

So far this is what i got

a Double Star 16'' complete upper H-bar barrel with 1:9 twist with no BCG––$349.97    *Found on cheaper than dirt
New Frontier Armory Model LW-15 Lightweight Polymer AR-15 Lower––––$109.99  *found on their website

I need to find a good but fairly lower priced BCG if anyone can help me find one thats actually in stock. If anyone knows of a cheaper Upper thats light weight and somewhat good on quality and knows it will shoot steel case and pretty much any crappy bullet please tell me

Checked Palmetto State? They usually have all sorts of $300 uppers without BCG

If you are shooting for light weight an HBAR barrel is not the way to go.  Personally I'd say go with a midlength PSA 14.5" or 14.7" with a pinned FH and either lighter weight, light weight, or A2 profile.

Run of the mill CAR stock or a Voltor Modstock and some 20rd mags.

Well i knew the Hbar is a heavy barrel i just didn't find a cheaper upper till now... OHH and if anyone can help I cannot find a BCG to save my life and i don't wanna spend $250 on a fancy chrome, titanium nitride or stuff like that

Check psa, or del-ton. I would also surf over to AIM / PK firearms, they usually have good deals. Stay away from the big name companies (they charge more for the same product), its available you just have to search for it.

Try this:
Surplus Ammo and Arms Upper build kit 174.99
Surplus Ammo and Arms: Gas block, Delta assembly, A2 flash Hider, Stock Handguard, Handguard cap 59.95
Core15 BCG 119.99 (free shipping)
PSA Lower Build kit 104.99
PSA Poly Lower receiver 39.99
Total   499.91
or

same as above but PSA complete Omni poly lower for 119.99
Total 474.92

Shipping and transfer fees extra but that is about as cheap as I could get with new parts

[edit] Or wait for PSA to have some blem lowers in stock for $59.99 and get a real lower. Some people think the poly lowers are crap, I don't have one yet to give it a chance.

Sota arms has complete uppers that include the bcg, ch, and free float handguards that start at $379 shipped. You can add chrome lined or stainless barrel, a quad rail handguard, or go to a larger caliber for a little more. I bought an x39 upper from them and I am pleased with it. It eats cheap WalMart steel cased ammo with no issues (I added a few x39 specific upgrades that you wouldn't need for a non x39 upper). I have it on top of a polymer New Frontier complete lower. I had to swap the buffer for x39 use but otherwise its a great combo. The wait for an upper from sota is 4 weeks but that's better than most places right now. You can get the lower from joebobs cheaper and get free shipping. Use the discount code slickguns for 5% off Stuff from joebobs.

For under $500, this is not a bad rifle. You've done your homework Espos1111.

Polymer weighs less right?

LW-15 Complete Polymer Lower $109 - Watch the videos and realize they have fixed some of the earlier problems before bashing them
http://newfrontierarmory.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=245_285&products_id=34089
Del-Ton 16" Post-Ban Upper $400 - It comes with the BCG & Charging Handle
http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Barrel_Assembly_p/dt1015.htm
So that is $509 without a magazine...

^^ Thank you wagonwheel1. I just helped a coworker put the first option together. He was on a very limited budget. I might opt for a free float with a rifle at that price point.

To OP, watch PSA as they have regular sales on their lpk and stocks. Last week the lower build kit was $79.99. After it went off sale the lpk was $39.95 and the stock kit was $39.95 a few days later. Sign up for their daily deals, there is $ to save even off the lowest price. Try to keep your orders to as few places as possible, shipping charges can make or break a budget build. You may know this but some noobs might not.

OP, I didnt see your part about complete upper.
Try this
PSA Complete upper 269.99
PSA Complete Poly Lower 119.99
Core15 BCG 119.99 free shipping
Total 509.97 and you only have to pay one shipping charge.

Woops, forgot charging handle. + $18 PSA standard handle

[edit] For a toss around rifle I might forgo the poly lower and get a blem lower when they come back in stock. Just my opinion.

The barrel is the best place to save weight.  People get all worked up over saving ounces on handguards and receivers, then use a heavy barrel which weight pounds more than it needs to.  If you really want a lightweight build, you need to start with a 14.5" lightweight barrel.

Even then, $128 for a BCG to your door is pretty good.

I recently asked the same question and got a lot of helpful  responses.
The thread can be located here:

What_is_the_cheapest_you_can_build_an_AR15___.htmlhttp://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/587159_What_is_the_cheapest_you_can_build_an_AR15___.html

When I get mine completed, all with recent parts purchases, I will post results here.
Good luck and check out the link above.  Several members took a lot of time searching out cheap suppliers.
My build is going to be close to $500 maybe under.  Imagine that.

I did a build with the NF complete polymer lower at 106 dollars delivered.

Sure was light.

But balance was very front heavy.

I just built this on a GWACS Armory lower, with this barrel and a bunch of leftover parts from other builds.  With the TRS-25 RDS mounted it weighs 5 lbs 15.5 oz.

I put this together for $455.  Just have to be wiling to wait for deals and constantly check.  When you do see deals don't hesitate because they won't last long at all.

It's been so long since I put it together I don't really remember everything about it.

The stock kit came from AIM for $34.95
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XAR6Stock&name=Collapsible+6-Position+AR+Stock+(Commercial)&groupid=584

The lower is a PSA that I grabbed when they went on sale for $49.99

I picked up the cheapest LPK I could find from riflegear.com (I had a gearhog coupon I used to get a little discount)

The carry handle is an NCstar special (seems decent even though I hate NCstar with a passion) and I picked it up from a gun show for $20

AND THE KICKER......I paid $300 for the used S&W sporter upper (80 rounds down the pipe) it's a slick sided upper so it does not have dust cover or forward assist but I figured for a beater woods gun I did not need it.  I got it off EE and it had the BCG and charging handle with it.

The mag I already had for another rifle.

So you can put something like this together for the same price but you have to be willing to wait on deals, buy used parts, and not get in a hurry.  If this would have been my first AR build I could never have had the patience to wait for good deals.  But I set my price limit at $450 and tried my hardest to keep under it.  I might have been able to grab some stuff cheaper but I can't complain at all with how it turned out for the price.
