I know in essence they're all the same, but I'm building an SBR so the lower I get is going to be a keeper.  I keep seeing that Spikes is very popular.  Given a choice between an S&W, LMT, Noveske, or Spikes, not withstanding cost... would you gravitate towards the "name brands?"

I have an S&W M&P tactical now and love it and was leaning towards an S&W lower.  By the time I get a CTR stock and new grip though, I'm over the price of the Spikes.  I know they're popular, but is it more because they're affordable and help alleviate the barrier to entry or what? I'm not intending to knock them at all, but I'm not looking to get one thing over another just to save a few bucks.

I'm not sure about an upper either.  I want to go 10.5 but will likely want to put the Spikes BAR rail on it because it's about the only rail I can find that has big enough internal diameter to accomodate a reflect style suppressor.

Opinions and advice are appreciated.

I just bought a spikes with stag Lpk really nice imo. But in reality if their all basically same quality being forged it comes down to finish and tramp stamp (roll mark) just my.  .02c

My build is mostly Spikes stuff. Upper, lower, LPK, BCG, charging handle, gas tube, all Spikes. It was all very high quality, fit and finish was great, and it works flawlessly. This was my very first build, as well as my first and only AR. I have never had a FTF, FTE, or any other kind of failure at all. Pull the trigger, it goes bang. I don't baby this rifle, it's my hunting workhorse and is quite accurate. I'm getting about 3/4moa with factory ammo. Now, if I were building a SBR, I'd go top of the line and just get a Spikes matched billet upper and lower. You're paying for it already, might as well make sure you don't regret it! That said, I am just a big Spikes fan because of the great products at a reasonable price and their awesome customer service. I think the thing that really sold me on Spikes was some time ago there were several guys that had leaky Enidyne hydraulic buffers. Spikes I believe traded them straight up, their leaky Enidynes for Spike's STT2 tungsten filled buffer (which is awesome by the way). More than the manufacturing company would do. Good people right there!

Buy a lower that you like & build it making sure everything is in-spec. It's no different than any other lower purchase. If something's wrong with the lower then don't register it & keep buying lowers until you find one that works 100%. It's simple.
