I have a daniel defense DDM4v3, middy with the front sight post.

What would you do here

1) send it to ADCO, have them chop the front sight and install a troy folding front on the rail

2) Replace the FSB with a YHM folding combo

My worry is the YHM won't be as durable as the pinned FSB. It'd be cheaper tho, and look nicer to boot.

Its my only AR and reliablity is king.

Please advise.

There is nothing more reliable than a pinned gas block. You decide.

I've thought about cutting mine off and putting on a long YHM free float tube over it. The tube I had in mind is the one with the rails that are removable. Then I'd put on a non-folding front sight from BCM. I'm thinking that I could mount a Surefire pistol light on the top in front of the sight. Plus, I'd have a longer hand guard which I feel I need. I think this will work well and also be fairly economical.

Is it possible to remove the FSB and have a new gas block pinned, something like the midwest industries one with a rail on top?

Look at it another way. You will never be able to use the FSB for anythong else, Un;ess you send it and an uncut barrel to have it drilled.
And as stated, nothing will be more secure than a pinned gas block.

I think the shaved factory pinned FSB with the longer rail to cover it topped with the Troy flip up is superior in both form and function to your other option.  Cost is irrelevant.  Get want you want or you'll never be happy with it.

+1 for leaving it alone, but if you go with another front sight, don't chop the FSB. Just remove it, in case you want to reinstall it one day. It was drilled and pinned specifically for your barrel. It's a pain in the a** to drill a new FSB for a barrel that has already been drilled, should you ever change your mind. They are not hard to remove and any competent gunsmith can do it. Throw it in your parts box with a couple of new taper pins and you're good to go. Variety is the spice of life.

It's fine the way it is.

Leave it alone.
