Is there somewhere you can send a barrel to be chrome lined?

No, it's part of the manufacturing process.

You could buy another barrel, but ss last a long time and it is better for accuracy.

Skid, a chrome-moly or stainless steel barrel is often claimed to be more accurate than a chrome-lined barrel. It is claimed that the chrome lining is often applied at an inconsistent thickness, and that it can flake off over time.

Some folks prefer chrome-lined barrels because they're "mil-spec," because they can last longer, and because they withstand adverse conditions better.

Things you should consider: What am I using this rifle for? What distance do I plan on shooting at? What kind of accuracy do I expect from this rifle? What kind of firing and cleaning schedule will this rifle be subjected to?

I prefer the chrome-lined barrel myself, but I would not pass up a deal on a non-chrome-lined barrel if everything else was what I was looking for. The barrel on my duty rifle is chromed lined, since it's exposed to high round count training, and rides around in a non-conditioned space in the trunk. It's not built for absolute accuracy; it's built for absolute reliability and ruggedness.

OTOH, if I was going to build or buy a varmint, competition, or long-range precision gun, it'd most likely have a SS or regular chrome-moly barrel. Not only for the additional accuracy potential, but also because most match/heavy barrels aren't chrome-lined to begin with.

All of that said, if you want a chrome-lined barrel, you can get one and swap it out in your rifle.

Replace the barrel if you want it chrome lined.

Thanks for the info ARJJ. I'm building my second AR and found a deal for a Chrome-Moly not Lined. I had always been told that chrome lined was superior. I am not putting an amazing amount of rounds through it and I clean my weapons regularly so that isn't an issue. I guess I will need to think about it. Thank you.

What about the Spikes M4 LE...

-Barrel is 4150 Chromoly Vanadium Alloy, M4 barrel extention, Chrome chamber and bore, 5.56mm Nato chamber, 1:7 Twist, Magnetic particle testing on every barrel, Phosphate finish.

It appears to be chromoly material and chrome-lined.  Is it in fact both....?

Yes. Standard barrels are made from a chromoly steel. It is up to the mfg whether they want to chrome line them.

That Spike's you mention is arguably the best rifle/upper deal out there right now!

I planned to upgrade to a chrome lined M-4 profile barrel in my Rock River AR-15.
Then I saw that a new barrel was 150-200 dollars, so I just sold the Rock River and bought a Colt 6920 with the money instead.
I love my Colt.
