I just received a 20" A2 upper with chrome lining.  I can easily see that the chamber is chromed.  The bore is extremely shiny but the crown shows no silver color and looks like it is just blued even after letting it sit with some CLP on it and wiping it down.  This barrel is a Bushmaster stamped "B MP 5.56 NATO ...." and I thought there was supposed to be a C in there somewhere but I know it is chromed.  I've seen many pictures here of crowns showing the chrome and am now wondering if it only shows after time and wear.  Is it always supposed to be noticeable on a new barrel's crown?

The other question is about feed ramps.  I thought they were a feature more often found on carbines yet my upper which is listed as a target model came with them.  I understand their purpose and was glad to see them on there but was left wondering if this is uncommon?

BM has never to my knowledge marked their barrels any other way then BMP 1/9 or 1/7. You should be able to see the chrome near the crown.

All ar15s have feedramps. Some have deep M4 ramps but all have feedramps.

Thanks Boom.  I can see the chrome inside the bore near the crown but not on the end of the barrel in the recessed area as I have seen in some photos of others' barrels.  I was worried for a second when I first noticed it but after looking through the bore I saw it was lined.  I found the answer to the ramp question in another thread.  I was mistaking an M4 extension with a rifle extension.

since chrome is now standard on USGI barrels there won't be a marking for it. pull off the flash suppressor if you want to and check.

I couldn't get a falsh suppressor because of stupid laws in this state so it just has a normal target crown.  I was slightly concerned that maybe it had not been lined the entire length of the bore for some reason but I can see it at the crown so it's a non issue.  Hopefully I will not have any questions for you tonight Tweak.

Nope.  Picked it up last night right before the shop closed.  Good thing I have today off.  I've had 100 rounds of XM193 sitting around for a month waiting for this thing.  I doubt it will be enough though.

All Bushmaster barrels marked as yours is are fully chrome-lined.  They don't make anything with just chromed chambers.  The only barrels they don't chrome are their DCM and Varminter barrels.

Thank you for the information Troy.  I had read a recent thread which referred to an early 90's Bushmaster barrel marked "B C MP..." and that is why I had expected to see a C on the barrel.  I guess they have since ended that practice for the same reason Tweak mentioned.  The barrel was just very dirty when I first inspected it.  So much black junk kept coming out of the barrel when I went to oil it that I ran the brush through it twice.  That knocked enough of the crud loose to reveal the chrome near the crown.  At first it honestly looked blued from the muzzle end but I knew it was not a DCM barrel.  I had expected it to look like the muzzle of the barrel at the top of this thread but outside of the crown the muzzle on mine looks black.

The "chrome" and "bore" and "c" markings disappeared in the late 60s or very early 70s, when fully chrome-lined barrels became standard (i.e., REQUIRED) on all M16 varients.

That's why I asked about firing it, the chrome at the muzzle is readily apparenty after the first shot.

Why is that?  Do they finish the barrels after chroming in effect putting a layer over the chrome?  I know the chrome is dull at first after they are lined but it seemed like I was getting more than just powder residue out of it.

in my experience the blast cleans the muzzle fairly well unless there is a muzzle device to contain the blast. the muzzle may get a little smoky but that wipes off and even with it in place you can see the chrome splash.
