In the RRAs, is the chrome lined barrel option worth getting? And if so, how can you tell just by looking at the barrel. I was at an area hunting exhibit and found the RRA Car A4 and the "tactical goto guy" claimed that all of RRAs guns had chrome lined barrels. I asked why they show a 40 dollar option on the website and he said you have to order them without the chrome lined barrel to get anything different.how. However, I do want the option to mount different types of sights in the future. I do like the mid length gas system concept though. What is the difference in price on them? Does anybody here know? Thanks, Chris |

Some say that chrome lining will hurt accuracy, and I agree to a point. However in a carbine length brl I have not seen enough difference to make me want a non-chrome brl. One thing I have found over the years is that all the chrome lined and chrome chambered AR rifles I have had will run on Wolf Poly cased ammo where the chrome-moly brls is dependent on the rifle; not to mention bit of protection added to the brl. | You know, the whole thing about chrome hurting the accuracy is true to a point I think but look at the FN SPR sniper rifle. It has a chrome barrel and is damn accurate, I would not worry all that much about the accuracy factor, I would worry more about the quality of the manufacturer of the barrel. No matter what it is made of, if the maker is lower end then your accuracy will probably not be as fine as if your barrel is a higher end one. You also have to figure ammo into that as well. A great barrel can not shoot good with crappy ammo and good match ammo will not fair well in a crappy barrel. |

This 16" setup you describe should have a chrome bore. IMO unless I am building a tack driveing telescoped rifle on an AR platform I will have a chrome bore.

try a search on "chrome"--lots of topics on it; same for mid vs CAR CL: provides the best overall durability and longevity (longer bbl life, easier to clean, most corrosion resitant); they do sacrifice in the accuracy dept, but not by much--imo, CL is worth the extra money CM: good std bbl, its the base material for most AR bbls (except for SS) and is good for most civi use and accuracy potential check the EE/ind board for great deals/dealers for RRA stuff |

Anyway, how can you tell. I want a Car A4 or an Elite A4 Rock River, but am still learning about them. Also don't know what a fair market price at a dealer may be. I want a 16" barrel with the flat top with either the flip up rear sight or cheapest rear sight mount that will work good. I don't plan on putting a scope on it, because I have a custom built .308 bolt gun for long range stuff and can engage consistently with iron sight to 300 M(got the ribbon to show for it)
