How often are you guys cleaning your piston ARs? More specifically, the bolt carrier group? I know a lot of folks never let the sun set on a dirty rifle, but I wanted to know if it's completely necessary to clean after every range trip. I was thinking running a bore snake through the barrel and calling it a day would do.

Couple times a year.....but it depends in part on your round count. I mostly just relube now and then.

Unless it's suppresed the BCG is clean as a whistle. I clean the barrel after every use and relube but I'm OCD for sure.

I too am OCD when it comes to weapons maintenance.  I was taught as a young Paratrooper to ALWAYS make sure that my rifle was clean.  But then again, I was birthed on a DI Colt Jammomattic.  I know that I talked to Paul over at Hogan Guns who I believe said that just over 11K rounds and not a jam while not being cleaned.  I know mine is simple to clean, I can't even imagine the NP3 coated rifles.  Those things must be unbelievably clean after thousands of rounds.

I've got a Sig 516 that I do a complete clean after every trip to the range.

Most I've shot in one outting is prolly 600 rounds.

Went the Froglube route, and it's a dream to clean.

snip, snap, done

I clean all my weapons after every trip to the range, it's an old Army habit that I choose to keep.  My piston Core 15 doesn't get very dirty in the chamber but the handgaurds and front post get dirty from the exhaust...

I may not take the bcg apart every time but I clean it and the rest of the gun after every range trip. It's fun.

I clean my gun every range outing. Clean the barrel is the must.
I treat my bolt carrier and bolt with Froglube. Burnt powder come off very easy, just wipe them off.

Regardless if it is DI or Piston you want to clean your gun every range trip to cut down on barrel fouling.  The gunk that comes out of most ammo will bake on to our barrel lining after sitting for a while and become more difficult to clean.   Cleaning a piston gun is easy, and usually you only have to wipe down the BCG parts and relube.

But the barrel gets nasty and should always be cleaned every range trip.

I purchased my Sig 516 because I remembered from my Army days that I liked shooting the M16 but loathed cleaning the thing.

As a result, I put anti-seeze on the threads of the gas regulator screw (1st gen) so it would freely move after being ignored and not cleaned and occasionally clean the barrel and drop a bit of oil on the BCG and plunger.

Guilty about cleaning my piston upper. I clean the bcg and barrel every couple of months. As for the piston system itself I cleaned it at first but haven't since and haven't run into any issues due to it.
