A GI cleaning kit is good to have for the field/range. If you get a stuck case due to a FTE, you can assemble the sectional cleaning rod and use it to tap the case free from the chamber. And, if your careful in how you clean, you can even use the GI kit as your everyday cleaning kit. Most folks like to go with a one piece coated cleaning rod for at home. Dewey rods are one very popular brand. A good field kit backed by a good one piece cleaning rod, patches, q-tips and CLP should be a good start on your way to properly maintaining your rifle. |
This pretty much sums it up. Personally I prefer the Tipton carbon fiber one piece rods over the Deweys because I have seen Dewey rods have the coating peel off. The Tipton brass tips for patches are a must have in my book too. The plastic ones just don't seem to cut it. |

I use the Kleen-bore one piece steel rod, pretty decent rod for the money. |
