So I just got my first AR15 and I need a good cleaning kit.  Any suggestions or online stores to recommend ?

I like the OTIS brand kit, instead of a cleaning rod, you use a cable to pull patches through the barrel.  You should still get a cleaning rod though... never know when you'll need to tap out a stuck case or something.

A GI cleaning kit is good to have for the field/range. If you get a stuck case due to a FTE, you can assemble the sectional cleaning rod and use it to tap the case free from the chamber. And, if your careful in how you clean, you can even use the GI kit as your  everyday cleaning kit.

Most folks like to go with a one piece coated cleaning rod for at home. Dewey rods are one very popular brand. A good field kit backed by a good one piece cleaning rod, patches, q-tips and CLP should be a good start on your way to properly maintaining your rifle.

This pretty much sums it up.  Personally I prefer the Tipton carbon fiber one piece rods over the Deweys because I have seen Dewey rods have the coating peel off.  The Tipton brass tips for patches are a must have in my book too.  The plastic ones just don't seem to cut it.

Check out Sinclair International. They have Dewey cleaning rods, bore guides, and some other cool AR cleaning gizmos.

Check out the cleaning and maintenance forum...there is already a post there on the same topic.

Dewy rods are excellent, IMHO. I've got a few with pretty high mileage that are still in excellent shape. A bore guide probably wouldn't hurt either.

I use the Kleen-bore one piece steel rod, pretty decent rod for the money.
