| I have a bunch of old t shirts that are gonna get chopped up and be used as cleaning patches. What size should I cut them to? |
|
Then I would go 1" square, some slightly bigger, some for rags..better if they are all cotten too~
But most importantly, IMHO is you should have a high quality cleaning rod..1 piece, that rotates, like a Tipton, a nice brass jag, nylon bore brush, etc......and More importantly, IMHO again, is a bore chamber guide! Ask any old time gunsmith, and they will tell you that more rifle barrels have been damaged by improper cleaning, 3 piece rods, cleaning from the muzzle, etc...than from not cleaning! I apologize if this is all info you already know, but I saw you are new to the forum, so I thought I'd add the info Welcome to ARFCOM! |

I like the "ribbed" cotton patches the best...I think Midway, or Brownells call them "premium, or something like that?
they don't rip apart as easily as the cheaper ones when stabbing them with a jag...T-shirt material will be better than a cheap patch, anyway though! I would wash and dry them w/o detergent first though..some softeners may make them less absorbent... |
