I was cleaning my RRA AR-15 today after shooting and while I was cleaning it, I realized there was a mildly thick clay-like buildup on the all over the bolt and on the inside of the reciever that I have never seen before. I haven't cleaned the gun for the last 4 or 5 times I've shot it and I have been shooting alot of silver bear lately.

was the bulidup caused by not cleaning the gun and/or shooting bad ammo?

even the best ammo will cause that build up, its carbon and if you go long enough with out cleaning it will cause your weapon to fail to cycle.

Yes. Dirty ammo and not cleaning will do it every time.
