Hey Guys,

Just bought my first AR.  M&P 15 OR.  I plan to use it mainly for target shooting, possibly varminting and for Zombie removal. With this in mind, which route should I go with optics? Red dot type scope or traditional 3x9x40 or something like that? Whatever type of optics I buy, I also plan on BUIS.  Good forum and peeps on here, so who has an opinion on this?

Thanks

Jeff

What is your budget?  For target shooting and varmint shooting you want some magnification.

My budget isn't much right now, like maybe $250.  I've been looking at the Vortex StrikeFire as far as a red dot scope is concerned. I know these are Chinese made but the price is decent. The place I bought my AR was trying to sell me a NcStar, which I've read aren't too good and I'm glad I didn't buy it.

If you have $250 I would try and scrape together a little more and get an aimpoint or eotech.

Scrounge the EE.  I have seen EoTechs go for around that much or not much more, and while I prefer the aimpoint, I prefer the Eotech over China made stuff.  The Strikefire has a big fan base but I have not played with it personally and can't speak for it either way.
